Located on the western part of the isle, with a surface area of 143,43 Km 2 and at an altitude of 580 m, it is at a road distance of 95 Km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and has a population of 17 163, mainly higher in the coastal tourist areas.

It limits to the north with Santiago del Teide and to the east with La Orotava , while its southern border limits with Adeje . The wide coastal front is full of cliffs, with some beaches.
